LEE Herne marked the end of his Weymouth
Doonan Wildcats stay with victory in
the Kingswood Four-Team Trophy. The
Aussie, who is returning to his homeland
due to work commitments, scored ten
points at the Wessex Stadium in his
final outing while brother Jay Herne
top scored with an unbeaten 12 from
his four rides. Also riding for the
hosts were Luke Priest and skipper Karl
Mason who helped the Wildcats notch
30 points in total - just two ahead
of second-placed Bristol Bulldogs. Third
went to the Exeter Falcons with 24,
who had current Wildcat Tim Webster
and ex-Wildcat Terry Day riding for
them, while the Somerset Giants, led
by Wildcat teenagers Brendan Johnson
and Kyle Newman, placed fourth on just
12 points.

By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Australian Lee Herne will take part
in his last meeting for the Weymouth
Doonan Wildcats tonight but he is not
moving to the Birmingham Brummies as
was expected. Instead the talented rider
will return Down Under tomorrow after
work commitments curtailed any hopes
he had of seeing out the rest of the
season in Britain. Herne's final outing
at the Wessex Stadium will see him line
up alongside Luke Priest, Karl Mason
and his brother Jay in the Kingswood
South West Four-Team Tournament, where
the hosts will look to beat select sides
from Bristol, Exeter and Somerset.

Conference Leagues
Mister Entertainment and Welsh Wizard,
Tom Brown, landed the spoils in the
Nat West Bronze helmet last weekend
in a thrilling meeting that had plenty
of thrills and spills. No-one who was
there to witness the prestigious meeting
could deny that every rider was out
there to win – something that the breathtaking
racing showed in spades.

Andrew Bargh is a more than adequate
replacement for the departing Lee Herne
according to Weymouth Doonan Wildcats'
manager Jem Dicken. The Premier League
rider, who turns out for the Isle of
Wight Islanders, stepped in for the
Australian at Sittingbourne yesterday
and top scored with 13 points as the
Wildcats moved to third in the Conference
table with a comprehensive 60-31 victory.

Pressure's On For Mason And Herne -
19/07/08 |
|
By
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats host the coveted
NatWest Bronze Helmet Individual meeting
tonight (7.15pm) and chairman Phil Bartlett
believes the pressure will be on home
riders Jay Herne and Karl Mason. In
total, 13 of the Conference league's
most exciting riders will battle it
out for the prestigious award. And Bartlett
is quietly confident his duo can perform
well. He said: "I think they will fare
well. They've got a point to prove racing
on their home track and there will be
more pressure on them than the other
riders because of that."

Laptops Donates In Hannah's Memory -
17/07/08 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats chairman Phil
Bartlett and his family is donating
four new laptops to Addenbrooke's Hospital
in Cambridge in memory of his daughter
Hannah. The medical staff at Addenbrooke's
cared for Hannah while she underwent
cancer treatment, and the family is
using her savings to help fund the new
equipment. Bartlett said: "We used to
save some of Hannah's pocket money for
the future so we thought we would do
something special with it. Instead of
just handing a cheque over to the hospital
we spoke with them and asked if there
was anything they needed. That is when
they told us that they did not have
any computers for the children there
so through Easy PCs on Abbotsbury Road
in Weymouth and Dell I have organised
four new laptops which myself and my
family will be taking up there soon."

Weymouth Wildcats Press Release - 16/07/08 |
|
By
Julie Martin - Weymouth Wildcats Speedway
A weekend of mixed fortunes for the
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats saw them knocked
out of the Conference League Knock Out-Cup
at the St Boniface Arena last Friday
in a closely fought encounter. However,
revenge was sweet on Saturday when the
Wildcats battled their way to 49-41
home victory in the Conference League
sending them a step closer to the valuable
play-off positions.

Bartlett's Blast - 15/07/08 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats' chairman Phil
Bartlett is hoping that injured number
one Jon Armstrong will be back in action
next month to replace the departing
Lee Herne. The Aussie rider, who will
sign for the Birmingham Brummies in
two-and-a-half-weeks' time, has only
made three outings for Weymouth since
being drafted in to fill the void left
by the Mighty Midget after he suffered
a broken leg in the Conference Pairs
on May 31. Herne's forthcoming move
to the Brummies has been clouded in
controversy after the Midlands outfit
released details about their latest
capture without even contacting Bartlett.

Cats Rock Devils - 14/07/08 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats' chairman Phil
Bartlett praised both teams after his
side came out on top in a scintillating
meeting at the Wessex Stadium on Saturday.
A revenge mission was the order of the
evening for the Wildcats after crashing
out of the Knockout Cup at the St Boniface
Arena the previous night and that is
exactly what materialised as they recorded
their biggest-ever win over their local
rivals in an amazing spectacle of incredible
racing.

Cats Crash Out - 12/07/08 |
|
By
Dorset Echo
Weymouth came close to pulling off a
shock before going down by seven points
on aggregate in the Conference Knock-Out
Cup quarter-final at Plymouth last night.
The Doonans Wildcats were defending
a slender two-point lead from the first
leg at the Wessex Stadium on June 21.
So it was an impressive performance
that saw Weymouth take the Devils to
a last-heat decider in the return at
the St Boniface Arena.

Cats Revved Up - 11/07/08 |
|
By
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats will be hoping
it is a case of third time lucky tonight
as they visit the Plymouth Devils in
their Knockout Cup quarter-final second
leg clash (7.15pm). The tie, in which
the Wildcats hold a slender 47-45 first
leg advantage, has been rained off twice
already with the latest attempt to stage
it being last Friday. Weymouth were
then dealt a double blow when their
Challenge meeting against the Swindon
Sprockets at the Wessex Stadium a day
later also fell victim to the wet weather.
That means Jem Dicken's side have gone
nearly three weeks without speedway.

Third Time Lucky - 10/07/08 |
|
By
Julie Martin - Weymouth Wildcats Speedway
The great British weather intervened
yet again to cancel last weekends red
hot Doonans Wildcats speedway action.
Both Weymouth’s visit to Plymouth and
the Wildcats home challenge with the
Swindon Sprockets were postponed due
to rain. The Wildcats will now journey
back down to Plymouth this coming Friday
for the second leg of the Knock-Out
Cup with Plymouth then making the return
trip the following day, Saturday 12th
July, for our Conference League clash.

Double Rain Off Disappointment for Wildcats
- 05/07/08 |
|
After
Friday nights meeting against the Plymouth
Devils at the St Boniface Arena was
rained off the Wildcats suffered yet
another disappointment when Saturdays
challenge match with the Swindon Sprockets
also became a victim of the current
unseasonal weather. The Wildcats take
to the track again next Friday when
yet again Plymouth will attempt to stage
the second leg of the twice rained-off
Knock-Out Cup match before returning
to the Wessex on Saturday where the
Cats will face the Devils in Conference
League action.

Cats' Bid To Upset Devils - 04/07/08 |
|
By
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats travel to Plymouth
tonight (7.15pm) hoping to make the
semi-finals of the Knockout Cup. The
return leg, which was originally scheduled
as the first clash but was rained off
last Friday, sees the Wildcats take
a slender 47-45 lead to the St Boniface
Arena - a leg in which reserve rider
Kyle Newman starred with a 12-point
haul. But with two defeats suffered
at the Devils' home track already this
season, 57-35 in the Trophy and 61-29
in the Devon & Dorset Cup, the form
book doesn't read well for the Radipole
Lane outfit.

Wildcats Return After GP Break - 03/07/08 |
|
By
Julie Martin - Weymouth Wildcats Speedway
The Weymouth Doonan Wildcats return
to Devon this Friday where they meet
the Plymouth Devils in the second leg
of the Knock Out Cup. This fixture fell
foul to the great British weather last
week and the rearranged meeting sees
the Wildcats face a tough task taking
just a two point advantage from the
first leg to the Saint Boniface Arena.
Jem Dicken Wildcats team manager said
“Although we only have a two point lead
I am confident that our luck has changed
and the Wildcats will be able to pull
off an unexpected win. The riders know
they are better than their adversaries
and its just getting to grips with the
tricky track that’s the problem.”.
