Better - 25/06/08 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Reserve revelation Kyle Newman has thanked
his backers for helping put his early
season nightmares behind him. The Weymouth
Doonan Wildcat bagged 12 points from
five races in last Saturday's 47-45
first-leg triumph over the Plymouth
Devils in the Knockout Cup at the Wessex
Stadium and is being tipped for a bright
future.

It's Over To You, Bruv - 24/06/08 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats' new boy Lee
Herne has revealed that he would rather
see his little brother do well than
himself. The former Arena Essex rider,
who made his debut for the Radipole
Lane outfit in Saturday's 47-45 first-leg
victory over the Plymouth Devils in
the Knockout Cup, has been drafted in
to replace Jon Armstrong who is recovering
from a broken leg. Losing the Mighty
Midget to injury in the Conference League
Pairs on May 31 was a huge blow but
thanks to the foresight of chairman
Phil Bartlett and the talents of the
Herne family the club managed to plug
the gap in double quick fashion.

Kyle's Cracker - 23/06/08 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Fearless Kyle Newman stole the show
as the Weymouth Doonan Wildcats opened
up a slender first-leg margin of two
points over the Plymouth Devils at a
wet Wessex Stadium. The reserve overshadowed
Lee Herne's debut by winning four out
of his five races in an inspirational
performance that grabbed plenty of praise
from his team manger Jem Dicken. Weymouth's
new signing did show his potential as
well in the tough conditions by claiming
two wins but there was no doubt that
it was Newman's night despite a fall
in his final outing.

Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
New-Signing Lee Herne will now make
his debut for the Weymouth Doonan Wildcats
at the Wessex Stadium this evening (7.3Opm)
after last night’s Knockout Cup first
leg clash at the Plymouth Devils was
called off due to rain. The Aussie ace
only arrived on these shores on Wednesday
night and so far he has not even been
able to sit on a bike. He was scheduled
to take a practice ride after a Poole
Pirates meeting on Thursday night but
wet conditions also put paid to that.

|
By
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo

hopeful of racing for Weymouth this

three weeks ago. The Mighty Midget suffered
the injury after a collision with team-mate
Jay Herne and Sittingbourne Cruasders'
Jerran Hart during the Conference League
Pairs. Armstrong, now out of hospital,
has been left distraught by the accident
but hopeful of a return before the season

Thats For Hannah - 16/06/08 |
|
By
Ky Capel -Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats recorded their
biggest win of the season so far, a
victory team manager Jem Dicken claimed
was for chairman Phil Bartlett and his
daughter. Bartlett sadly lost his nine-year-old
daughter Hannah to cancer on Friday
night. And before Saturday's racing
a minute's silence was held in remembrance
of Hannah. Dicken said: "The lads have
said the win was for Phil and his daughter.
It's very sad, we're all shocked and
saddened by it, especially as some of
us have children ourselves."

they host the Rye House Cobras at the
Wessex Stadium. Squad member Andrew
Bargh faces the difficult task of stepping
in to fill the boots of Jon Armstrong,
who broke his leg riding in the Conference
League Pairs two weeks ago. Wildcats’
team manager Jem Dicken is confident
in Bargh’s ability. He said: “I think
Andrew Bargh is a fine replacement this
week for Jon Armstrong, but I am also
looking forward to having Lee Herne
in the side next week.”

Lee Is 'Magic' Signing For The Cats
- 09/06/08 |
|
By
Adam Summers - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats' chairman Phil
Bartlett believes Australian ace Lee
Herne will prove a roaring success'.
The promoter announced the signing during
Saturday's 54-38 win against the Bristol
Bulldogs, just seven days after losing
Jon Armstrong to a broken leg in the
Conference League Pairs, and he is excited
about the prospect of his side's search
for success being re-ignited by two
brothers. Bartlett said: "Lee is Jay's
older brother and he has a great pedigree.
He has ridden for Trelawney, Newport
and Arena Essex and the fact we have
managed to get him is like pulling a
rabbit out of a hat. He is extremely
quick out of the gate like Jay and I
am sure he is going to be a roaring
success. He has ridden in the Australian
Championships and he cannot wait to
come over and help us."

Cats Eyes Are On Bulldogs - 07/06/08 |
|
By
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
Weymouth Doonan Wildcats host the Bristol
Bulldogs tonight (7.15pm) in a Challenge
meeting at the Wessex Stadium. Tonight's
meet will give the Wildcats the perfect
chance of a warm-up ahead of next weekend's
Conference League fixture with the Rye
House Raiders. But the hosts will have
to get used to life without star rider
Jon Armstrong as he remains in hospital
after suffering a broken leg in the
Conference League Pairs last weekend
at Weymouth.

Herne Shattered By Jon's Injury - 06/06/08 |
|
By
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
Wildcat Jay Herne
wishes he could "turn back time" after
his fall in the Conference League Pairs
saw team-mate Jon Armstrong suffer a
broken leg. The Aussie ace went down
in heat seven of last Saturday's showpiece
with both Armstrong and Sittingbourne
rider Jerran Hart crashing into him.
But it was the Mighty Midget who came
off worse, much to the horror of Herne.

next Saturday. The newly reformed club
has been invited to send a representative

Wildcats' chairman
Phil Bartlett says he will be making
"thousands of phone calls" to find a
suitable replacement for Jon Arm-strong
whose season looks to be over after
sustaining a broken leg on Saturday
night. The Wildcats' number one rider,
and top points scorer this season, suffered
the injury during the group stages of
the Conference League Pairs meeting
at the Wessex Stadium. And Bartlett
will be doing his utmost to bring in
a new rider.

Armstrong Agony - 02/06/08 |
|
By
Ky Capel - Dorset Echo
A disastrous night
for the Weymouth Doonan Wildcats saw
Jon Armstrong forced out of the Conference
League Pairs, and probably the rest
of the season, with a broken tibia.
The Mighty Midget collided with team-mate
Jay Herne, and Sittingbourne's Jerran
Hart, after Herne fell during heat seven
to leave a sour taste in the host club's
mouth on a night where the Boston Barracudas
lifted the Pairs' trophy after beating
the Redcar Cubs in the grand final.
